Several protesters were killed in violent protests across the country over the Citizenship Amendment Act. During this time two protesters were also killed in Mangaluru. Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said that the Karnataka government would not give compensation to the families of the two people killed during the protests in Mangaluru over the Nagrikity Act.

Soon after the incident on December 19, the state government announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed in the shootout.
