New Zealand opener Tom Latham suffered a finger injury during the third Test against Australia and is set to be sidelined for four weeks. New Zealand batsman Tom Latham will not play in the five-match T20 series against India. Latham suffered a finger injury and that is why he will not take part in the series starting January 24. Latham suffered a finger injury while taking a catch in the last Test match played against Australia in Sydney. Even after the injury, he came to bat in the second innings.

New Zealand Cricket said that X-ray showed that Latham's finger was fractured. It will take four weeks for him to recover from this. Latham may return to the ODI series against India starting in February. After being beaten 0–3 by Australia, New Zealand coach Gary Stead gave information about the other injured players in the team.

Head coach Gary Stead said, "Lockie Ferguson has returned to running and performing bowling drills. He'll continue to progress over the next couple of weeks, with the potential to return to domestic cricket early next month. Trent Boult has been resting his broken right hand and will return to bowling later this week. He'll be touch and go to be available for the Indian T20 series later this month and we'll continue to monitor him closely over the next few weeks."

He said, "Matt Henry has had his broken left thumb splinted and will require around a month for it to fully heal. In this time he will still be able to practice bowling and will look at a return to play early next month. Kane, Henry and Mitch are regaining their health after being struck down with Influenza A and will continue be monitored as they slowly rebuild their strength and fitness."
