Movie Review: Kapil Dev Won the World Cup, and Ranveer Singh Won the Hearts of the Audience

Anshika Agarwal

Nowadays, only one factor is enough to make any movie a super-duper hit and that is a compelling storyline. If you are a true cricket fan then you will love Kabir Khan’s film ‘83’. ‘83’ is an emotional film and true cricket fan lovers will cry for sure after watching this movie, at the same time this movie will make you laugh and you will feel proud of being an Indian. There are some moments in the film related to the personal lives of the crickets which will win your hearts.

About the film...

The film is based on the epic and historical win of the world cup by team India in the year 1983. The final match was against West Indies, the most powerful team at that time. At one point during the tournament, the level of expectation from Team India was so low that a broadcaster could easily opt for a match between the giants, West Indies and Australia, over a match between India and Zimbabwe.

The latter was the match where Indian captain Kapil Dev created history with his bat, and it is that brilliant inning that was not recorded on camera. Kapil Dev gave the gift of the World Cup to the country for the first time.

Cast selection

Star Cast of 83

The selection of actors in this film would have been the most difficult part, so Deepika as Kapil's wife Romi, Boman Irani as Farokh Engineer, Pankaj Tripathi in the role of manager, Tahir Bhasin in the role of Gavaskar, Tamil actor Jeeva in the role of Srikkanth. Saqib Saleem in the role of Mahendra Amarnath, Jatin Sarna in the role of Yashpal, Hardy Sandhu in the role of Madan Lal, Ammy Virk in the role of Balwinder Sandhu is quite right.

Deepika and Ranveer as Romi Dev and Kapil Dev

The most special is the pair of Kapil and Romi, even though the screen timing of Deepika as Romi was less, but 25 percent of the audience came to watch the movie because of this famous couple of Bollywood. Talking about the acting of Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, he showed that there is no break for him. The audience loved his performance and was praising him. Ranveer did justice to the role of Kapil Dev in the film ‘83’.

'83' will be challenged by Shahid's 'Jersey'

Shahid's 'Jersey'

'83' will also face competition from another sports drama slated to release on December 31. Titled 'Jersey', the film stars Shahid Kapoor, Pankaj Kapur, and Mrunal Thakur. This film is a Hindi remake of Gowtam Tinnanuri's film of the same name which came in the year 2019. Gowtam Tinnanuri will direct the hindi remake of the film as well. The film revolves around Arjun (Shahid), a failed cricketer, who decides to fulfill his dream of representing Team India for his son.

Taran Adarsh said...

According to critics Taran Adarsh, '83' has got 3,374 screens in Hindi, has been released in 1,727 theaters, and will screen 11,011 shows in Hindi every day. Apart from this, the film has got 137 screens in Telugu, 184 in Tamil, 13 in Malayalam, and 33 in Kannada. In this sense, the film has been released on 3,741 screens across India.

Actor Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's '83' has been released in theaters on 24 December (Friday). The film is getting a good response from the audience and critics. The film has made a box office collection of about Rs 15 crore on the first day of release i.e., opening day. However, '83' has failed to beat Akshay Kumar's 'Sooryavanshi', 'Pushpa' and 'Spider-Man No Way Home' in terms of first-day collections.
