Chandigarh: Panic, Tracking Buttons to be Mandatory in all Public Vehicles from Jan 31

According to the convenience and safety of passengers, vehicle location tracking devices and panic buttons have been made mandatory in all public vehicles from January 31, 2023.

Apart from public service vehicles, the rule has also been made mandatory for all vehicles that have obtained a national permit.

Let us tell you that the administration of Chandigarh issued this order on Wednesday i.e. Dec 28, in which it has been said that both these things should be installed in all these vehicles before the end of January. This work should be completed at the time of registration with new vehicles.

The installation of tracking devices and panic buttons in all public service vehicles is aimed at the safety of passengers, especially women and children.

This will help in tracking the vehicle and information about the route it is going. Here, from speed to rash driving and violation of rules will also be detected.

Order is issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

These rules are going to be implemented by Chandigarh Union Territory Administration after the order is issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

It has been made applicable to vehicles in UT Chandigarh under rule 125(h) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, sub-rule 5 of rule 90 and sub-rule 1 of rule 129 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the state transport department said in its notification.

The State Transport Authority started the work of vehicle location tracking and installation of emergency alerts in public vehicles on June 30, 2022.

So far VLT and EA (vehicle location tracking and emergency alert) have been installed in 35 per cent of the buses.
