Coronavirus infection has been confirmed among 15 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Naxal-affected Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. Kanker District Chief Health and Medical Officer Dr Jagjivan Ram Uike said that coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 15 BSF personnel in Kanker district. In one of these soldiers, the infection was confirmed on Tuesday evening and in 14 of the soldiers late night.
Uike said that 10 soldiers were in Bande in the district and other soldiers were in a separate habitation center in Antagarh. They are being admitted to the hospital in Jagdalpur after confirmation of coronavirus infection among them. Officials of the Border Security Force in the state said that so far 26 BSF personnel have been confirmed coronavirus infected in the state, whereas six of these soldiers have been discharged after treatment.
Officials said that out of the 15 personnel who have been confirmed coronavirus infected, seven are from 132nd Battalion, five from 17th Battalion, two from 82nd Battalion and one from 167 Battalion. They also said that all the soldiers came from different states including West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar after the holiday and after the soldier's arrival, they were kept in a separate residence.
Border Security Force personnel are involved in anti-Naxal operations in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, whereas coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 2,385 people in the state till Tuesday. 846 infected people are currently being treated in the state and 1,527 people have been discharged after treatment. 12 people infected with the virus have died in the state.
