Maharashtra Election: Pawar Shows his Power in Assembly Elections

Akash Singh

Although the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance may have won the Maharashtra elections, but Maratha veteran Sharad Pawar did the job of winning the heart. His ally Congress had accepted defeat even before fighting in the state, at a time when the NCP chief Pawar lashed out at the BJP-Shiv Sena. Election analysts believe that Pawar, along with his party, overcame the Congress. Pawar's style of politics is different, once again it is proved.

Pawar on his own did not let the BJP-Shiv Sena victory take a big shape. It has been decided by his leadership that the state will no longer have the Congress but will play the role of Big Brother in the NCP alliance. Analysts are assuming that if the Congress had contested the elections by forgetting its internal disputes and keeping Pawar in front, then the picture of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly would have been quite different.

The BJP had started making a dent in the Congress-NCP to surround it before the elections. Over thirty NCP leaders joined the BJP or Shiv Sena, many of whom were trusted and with them for many years. But Pawar did not let the lack of these leaders in campaigning. This is the reason that most of the places where NCP won in 2014 have won again.
