The Government of India has withdrawn the travel advisory on COVID-19 related to additional screening and restrictions for travelers coming from the UK. According to the report of news agency ANI, the Ministry of Health has issued a statement saying that the revised guidelines for UK nationals arriving in India on 1 October 2021 have been withdrawn and the earlier guidelines on international arrival on 17 February 2021 have been withdrawn from the UK.
Earlier it was said that UK nationals coming to India will have to compulsorily quarantine at home for ten days. Along with this, there was talk of conducting an RT-PCR test at the airport for all passengers coming from Britain. Apart from this, RT-PCR test will have to be done again after eight days of arrival in India
This decision of the Government of India has come at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK PM Boris Johnson spoke on the phone on October 11. During this, both the leaders discussed the common fight against the coronavirus. Also, they discussed the importance of carefully opening up international travel. Earlier Britain had decided that Indians who had taken both doses of the Covishield vaccine would not need to be in quarantine upon arrival.
The British government had issued new rules a few days ago. A person arriving in Britain after traveling from other countries including India will have to stay quarantined for 10 days. It also has to undergo a Covid test. Not only this, those who have taken both doses of the vaccine were also made mandatory to remain in quarantine. India had strongly objected to this rule and said that it is a discriminatory rule.
