Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, so far 167,999,022 COVID-19 cases reported. Of these, 149,340,165 people have been cured, while 3,487,535 people have died.
Amid rising coronavirus cases in Japan and Sri Lanka, the US State Department has warned its citizens not to travel to these countries. On Monday, the US State Department said, "This week, the following Travel Advisories have been assessed and reissued with updates, raised to a Level 4 – Do Not Travel: Japan, Sri Lanka."
The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a new alert said that Americans should avoid all travel to Japan and have anyone vaccinated before traveling there. It added, "Because of the current situation in Japan even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to Japan."
India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 1,96,427 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,69,48,874. With 3,511 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 3,07,231.
The country also witnessed 3,26,850 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,40,54,861. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 89.26%.
German authorities on Sunday announced that it will ban most non-essential travel from the United Kingdom to contain the spread of more contagious variants of the COVID-19 virus. The ban came into effect on May 23. Meanwhile, the cases of coronavirus are increasing rapidly in the UK again. There has been a 12% increase in cases in the last seven days.
At the same time, the 'triple mutation' variant identified in Yorkshire has raised concerns for the country. Giving information about this, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that the triple mutant variant was first identified in Yorkshire named as VUI-21 MAI-01. So far, 49 cases of new strains confirmed in Yorkshire.
