NITI Aayog member Saraswat said that the 'quality of bulletproof jackets that come from China' does not always have the same quality. According to the news agency PTI, Saraswat said, 'Our committee had made a very clear recommendation that we should use indigenous goods as soon as possible and where there are no indigenous goods, the import is necessary, we should avoid import from China because Their quality is not consistent.

What is the matter?

Significantly, 20 soldiers of our country have died in a violent clash with the Chinese army on the border. In such a situation, anti-China nationalism is at a peak in the country.

There is talk of boycotting Chinese goods and reducing imports from China. In such a situation, people are surprised to know that for our soldiers, the bulletproof jacket that Indian companies produce, the raw material or the necessary goods are also imported from China.

Saraswat has also been the head of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Saraswat said that companies producing bullet-proof jackets for our soldiers should procure raw materials from other countries for this.

We should be Self-reliance

The Modi government is continuously making efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in defence as well. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has asked the NITI Aayog to 'encourage' domestic manufacturing of lightweight body armour and protective gears.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is also finalizing the Quality Norms for Body Armour used by the Army. According to an estimate, the Indian armed forces need around 3 lakh bulletproof jackets.

Bulletproof jacket companies are now sourcing raw materials from China because of the cheaper price. Earlier it was sourced from Europe and America. Kanpur's company MKU and Tata Advanced Materials supply body armours to the armies of many countries.
