A man and his wife allegedly killed his sister-in-law on the terrace of their residence. The woman was set ablaze by the couple after an altercation broke out over a household issue. Police said that the woman was a victim of domestic violence.
According to sources, the accused identified as Kanti and Virendra had a tiff with the victim while she was cooking food. The accused entered the kitchen with slippers and when the victim protested, an altercation broke out between them. Following which, the couple took the victim to the roof of the house and put kerosene in her hair and set her ablaze.
The victim is the mother of a girl and a boy aged 6 and 4 respectively. Her husband works in Mumbai and came to Basti after any case against his brother and wife.
"My father is in favor of my uncle's family. But we want justice for our mother," the son said.
ASP Pankaj Pandey said that strict action will be taken against the accused. "In this case, allegations are being made against each other. At present, the police are collecting evidence and the accused will soon be behind the bars. The statement of Kusum's son has also been recorded," he said.
