After concluding his two-day bilateral visit to Brunei, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Singapore today. He is on a two-day visit to Singapore with the aim of deepening the "strategic partnership" with the Southeast Asian nation.
Following his first bilateral visit to Brunei, Prime Minister Modi is now in Singapore at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong. This marks his fifth official visit to the Southeast Asian country, where he will stay for two days.
Before heading to Singapore, PM Modi made a historic visit to Brunei, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. During this visit, several significant agreements were signed between India and Brunei.
PM Modi emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in defence, security, trade, and cultural sectors with Brunei. He described his visit to Brunei as fruitful and stated that it marked the beginning of "a new era" in strengthening India-Brunei relations, contributing to a better world.
During his bilateral visit, Prime Minister Modi held talks with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. The discussions covered various topics, including defence, trade, and energy, as well as the exchange of views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Modi last visited Singapore in 2018. On this current visit, he is accompanied by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, and other government officials.
In addition to meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Modi will also meet Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
Wong and Loong will host separate banquets in his honour. Modi is also scheduled to meet with Singapore's business leaders and engage in discussions with key figures from the country's semiconductor industry.
