Former IPS officer Vijay Kumar, who piled up the notorious Chandan smuggler of international stature, is once again in the news. It is now discussed that the Central Government can make him the First Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. His name has been in discussion ever since the announcement of abolishing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, making it a special state from a union territory. Vijay Kumar is a 1975 batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He is currently an advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik.

Veerappan had been a headache for the police of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for years. Even after spending crores, the government was unable to do anything about it. His hands were stained in the blood of several officers. Anyone who was killed by the police or a government official would kill him mercilessly. This was the reason why the fear of Veerappan's name was in this entire area. IPS officer Vijay Kumar had worked to make this awe of death forever.

Vijay Kumar is a 1975 batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. Between 1998-2001 he was the Inspector General of BSF in Kashmir Valley. At that time, the Border Security Force had also taken fierce action against the terrorists. 65-year-old Vijay Kumar was the most discussed when he was posted in the Special Task Force. In 2004, Vijay Kumar was named as one of the people who surrounded the sandalwood smuggler Veerappan and brought it to its end. In 2010, when Naxalites killed 75 CRPF personnel in Dantewada, K Vijay Kumar was made the Director General of CRPF to crack down on Naxalites.

For three decades Veerappan had terror in the jungles of the south. Veerappan used to speak in smuggling from ivory to sandalwood. Whoever came in his way was killed. Veerappan's eyesight was getting weaker. He wanted the businessman to arrange some guns for him. Along with this, also arrange for his cataract operation.

In 1990, the Karnataka government formed a special police squad to nab him. Soon the policemen caught many of his men. In February 1992, the police apprehended Gurunathan, his main military aide. A few months later, Veerappan raided a police station in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district, killing many and looting arms and ammunition. In 1993, the police arrested his wife Muthulakshmi. He strangled and killed his offspring to prevent his newborn baby from crying and screaming.
