Sunanda Pushkar’s Death Case Sent to Sessions Court for Further Action Against Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor

A Delhi court Monday sent Sunanda Pushkar's death case against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor to the Sessions court for further proceedings.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal sent the court to the case to Additional Sessions Judge Arun Bhardwaj since the offense under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code was triable by a sessions judge.

The court also directed Delhi police to preserve the vigilance report in the matter.

The maximum punishment for the offense is 10 years of imprisonment.

Tharoor, former Union minister, and Pushkar's husband has been charged under sections 498-A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), but has not been arrested in the case

Be aware that some time ago, Delhi Police had made Shashi Tharoor an accused in his charge sheet. Delhi Police had filed charge sheet in Patiala House Court after four years in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case. Delhi Police filed charge sheet against the IPC Section 306 i.e. for suicides and 498A under the rape of marital life. The Delhi Police had also filed the first case of murder in this case. Police have named Shashi Tharoor as accused. The Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet of 3,000 pages.
