Thursday, when the policeman Baljinder Singh, accused of molesting a student, boarded a bus going to Ropar from Punjab State Transport Chandigarh and sat in an empty seat with a nursing student.
According to the relatives of the student, he kept harassing the girl from Chandigarh to Kannada till she was elbowed. The student repeatedly refused him but he did not accept it. The accused ASI also gave the student his mobile number. When the policeman's actions crossed the limit, the victim sent an email to her brother and informed him. After the bus reached the bus station of Rupnagar, the relatives of the student arrested the accused ASI and people slapped him. When the police got the information of the case, he took the accused ASI to City Police Station. Dozens of people, including the relatives of the student, reached the police station and demanded action against the accused.
The police forced the girl and her family to compromise by pressuring them. According to Sunil Kumar, city police commissioner of Ropar, the accused ASI apologized to the student in front of his wife. It is a shame that the top police officials of Punjab Police are engaged in suppressing the case. This behaviour of a senior police officer is against the limit. Taking cognizance of this incident, no action has been taken against the accused.
