A Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, in his mid 20's, supposedly ended his life on Friday by hanging himself from a roof fan in an examination room of the college. Police said the student was going undergoing treatment for depression.

The student recognized as Rishi Joshua Thomas who hailed from Kerela, was a second-year student of Master in Arts (MA), English Language and he had messaged an implied suicide note to his English teacher before hanging himself.

As indicated by Devendra Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South West area, a police control room call (PCR) call was gotten at around 12 pm in which the informer who is warden of Mahi Mandvi hostel, where Joshua lived informed in regards to the incident.

"Police came to at the university's "School of Languages" office subsequent to contacting the informer, the in-charge of Mahi Mandvi hostel. Police found that one room in the storm cellar of the library building was bolted from inside and there was no reaction on thumping the entryway," said the DCP.

"From the window, police team saw a body swinging from the roof fan. The entryway was coercively opened and the body was brought down by cutting the cable. He was taken to JNU doctor in the campus who announced him dead," said the DCP.

"The crime team has visited the spot and essential examination was finished by them. The body has been moved to Safdarjung Hospital. Relatives have been informed and Rishi's one cousin Mathew Vargese had likewise come to JNU after he came to know about the incident," said the DCP.

"Beginning examination proposes that the perished was undergoing some treatment. Police have recouped one suicide note which was sent to Professor of English language. According to the fundamental enquiry, no unfairness is suspected. Further examination is in progress," the DCP included.
