Earthquake in Japan: The National Center for Seismology has reported strong tremors of an earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, with an intensity of 6.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at 2:48 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
Although people ran out of their homes and offices to ensure their safety, there have been no reported casualties or property damage thus far.
Earlier on February 25, 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale was felt in the eastern part of Hokkaido.
Hokkaido, the second largest island of Japan with a population of millions, is prone to frequent earthquakes all year round, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Though these earthquakes may not always be fatal, their impact can be devastating when their intensity on the Richter scale is high.
On Friday, March 24, earthquake tremors measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale were also felt in the Izu Islands of Japan.
It is worth noting that Japan experiences frequent earthquakes due to the presence of the earth's most active tectonic plates in this region.
These plates form a circular boundary, making Japan the epicentre of a large number of earthquakes worldwide, resulting in daily tremors.
