The Lok Sabha was informed on Monday that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will not allow new traditional subjects with less employment in a 2020-21 academic year. They will only allow emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence and Block Chain.
Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also said that the engineering students are being trained so that they can become part of the government's 'Make in India' initiative. To fill the gap between industry requirements and courses in engineering institutes, AICTE has taken several steps including compulsory internship for students.
In response to a question on employment, he said that the students of IIT are working in 200 companies out of 500 top companies in the world. Shashi Tharoor (Congress) claimed that there is a mismatch between Demand of the Industry and the courses which should be removed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that if the mismatch is removed, then students will not be advised "Fry pakoras" to get employment.
