It would a be a story directly out of a movie script where a man leads to two lives- one where he is a local political leader foremost masses and working for the betterment of civic amenities whereas in the other one, he is a criminal architect execute thefts and robberies in trains.

34-year-old Harvinder Singh alias Sunny led a normal life in Uttar Pradesh's Haldaur where he was chosen as a sovereign councilor for the town's municipal board.

Harvinder Singh was under arrest by Hyderabad railway police who were on a lookout for him and his brother for theft valuable and ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh from an Army brigadier's wife who was traveling from Duronto Express on February 11.



Harvinder was sent to police custody till February 20. The Mumbai railway police will look for his custody next.

The duo was nabbed from Hyderabad railway station on February 16 by SCR RPF when they were preparing for another heist, with a kept first class ticket to Mumbai.

According to Railway police officials, Harvinder had been transported out train heists since 2008 and was wanted in more than 75 cases. The total amount of loot stolen by him could be in crores.

Back in his hometown Haldaur, he was an appreciated politician hostility for civic amenities for the inhabitants. He had won with an enormous number of votes, defeating his adversary in the ward. Many saw him as the next mayor of the town. Meanwhile, he indulges in train loots in other parts of the country.

Last year, Harvinder had managed to steal valuables and a .32 bore pistol from a passenger traveling on the Avantika Express from Mumbai. He was arrested in 2014, but after being freed on bail he went back to his old habits and sought the help of his younger brother Gaurav to escort him for the robberies.

Harvinder Singh was previously arrested for the passenger theft offenses in Vijayawada Division of south central railway. During the beginning inquiry, he exposed having committed offenses such as theft of gold jewelry, valued at Rs 10 lakh from a train on February 11 at Nagpur station.

He also revealed having dedicated cash theft of Rs 1, 90,000 from Duronto (Nagpur-CSTM) and gold jewelry from Mumbai-Sholapur Siddheshwar Express on February 13 and 14 respectively.

The duo was detained with Rs 1, 60,000 in cash, a gold necklace, diamond jewelry, which are supposed to be from the recent robbery.

He also exposed stealing from ladies' handbags several times from AC coaches in trains like Kittoor-Chennamma and Madras Mail from Bangalore. Detailed questioning may reveal further details. Maharashtra GRP was well-versed and they are sending the team for further action.
