Sharjeel Imam, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), is in discussion about his anti-national statement. In one of his speeches, he spoke of cutting off the entire North-East India including Assam from the rest of India. After its video became viral on social media, FIRs were registered against Sharjil in several states, including Treason, and serious charges including promotion of hostility on the basis of religion. Huh. Police from six states are conducting raids to arrest him. Police in Bihar are questioning his brother and a friend in custody.
Sharjeel is a native of Jehanabad, Bihar. His father Akbar Imam was the leader of the ruling Janata Dal United (JDU). Akbar Imam also contested assembly elections from Jehanabad on JDU ticket. Sharjeel's uncle deals with the matter through politics. According to him, his nephew has been implicated unnecessarily to take advantage in the Delhi Assembly elections. Sharjeel's mother also considers the son innocent.
Sharjeel is seeking the Imam for five crime branch teams. Treason cases have been filed against him in six states. Police of Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have filed FIRs against him. Police are also conducting raids in Mumbai and Delhi along with Bihar for the arrest of Sharjeel. An alert has also been issued on the Bihar-Nepal border in the hope of his escape to Nepal. Police is also vigilant at railway station and airport.
