The website of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Maharashtra Police was hacked on Friday and a warning against "Indian police and the Modi government" for hurting the sentiments of Muslims. At the same time, Maharashtra CID chief Atul Chandra Kulkarni claimed that it was not a hacking but a "test" to check the security features of the sophisticated website.

Additional Director General of Police Kulkarni said, "Our data is safe and there is no question of any compromise with the data available on the website." On the hacked webpage, "Government of Imam Mahdi" was written in bold font and there was a picture of a horseman with a flag in his hands. Along with this, a message was also seen on the webpage, "Indian police and Modi government we warn, stop harassing Muslims … Imam Mahdi is coming soon."

According to a media report, the hackers have described themselves as a legion. Hackers have said that they have done this to pay tribute to those killed in the Delhi violence. Significantly, many people were killed and injured in the violence in Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
