Asaram is currently imprisoned in Jodhpur regarding a sexual assault case against him. Now, he has petitioned the Gujarat High Court for bail in connection with another rape case. The court has applied for bail on Asaram's behalf, mentioning his illness.
After hearing Asaram's bail plea, the Gujarat High Court has ordered the Jodhpur jail superintendent to show his medical report. However, the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court have rejected the bail applications of Asaram.
A former associate from Asaram's ashram near Ahmedabad has accused him of rape. On Wednesday, 25 April, a Jodhpur court affirmed him guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl. As a result, Asaram has been imprisoned in Jodhpur.
Apart from this, Asaram and his son Narayan Sai are also involved in a double rape case. The two sisters in Gujarat accused him of repeated sexual assault and unlawful confinement.
Asaram has approached the lower courts to the Supreme Court about 15 times. However, he cited his ill health, to get bail in the Jodhpur-related case.
The High Court and the Supreme Court have also dismissed his bail plea on the basis of his medical report. The Medical Board of AIIMS stated that Asaram is not suffering from any sought of illness. Now once again Asaram has attempted to get bail on medical grounds through Gujarat High Court.
The Gujarat High Court has also asked for his medical report from the Jodhpur jail superintendent. Asaram's bail request will be determined on the basis of the medical report. However, the subsequent hearing of the matter will be on November 26.
