With the arrest of three people, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Haryana Police has busted a gang who, by showing the death in a road accident of the patients, claims insurance money in the name of the deceased cancer patients.

The accused have been identified as Pawan Bhoria, also kingpin of the gang and a resident of Sevali in Sonipat, Mohit, a resident of Rithana and Vikas a resident of Gumana.

A complaint in this regard was filed by Bharti AXA Life Insurance. The same STF team was handed over. After this, the accused were arrested by the team, "an

STF spokesman said that many suspicious documents were also recovered from the criminals.

Explaining their modus operandi the spokesperson of STF said that the accused used to identify the cancer patients and then contact their family members.

The accused used to get insurance for cancer patients from different companies. After showing the death of cancer patients in road accidents, they used to receive insurance claims of the deceased. To get the sum insured, the accused lodged an FIR of the accident in different police stations of Haryana.

They also used to remove the treatment record of a deceased person from PGIMS Rohtak. In this, Government employees like doctors, police personnel and of PGIMS Rohtak were also found involved,' said the spokesperson of the STF.

This is first of its kind incident of fraud with insurance companies unearthed in the country.

Primary interrogation revealed that these people involved in fraudulent insurance claims with Iffco  Tokyo, Met Life, LIC, ICICI Lombard, HDFC ERGO, Canara, Kotak, Bajaj Finance, Apollo Munich and Birla Sun Life.
