This day is meant to encourage people to donate their healthy organs to save someone else's life after death. Many people lose their lives in the absence of healthy organs which can be saved. The purpose of this day is to make people feel voluntarily donating their organs can change the lives of many people. The organ of a person declared brain dead can be donated. India has its own organ donation day which is celebrated every year on 27 November. On this occasion, the government calls upon citizens to voluntarily donate their organs and save lives.

When did organ donation start?

Modern medicine has made it possible to transplant organs from person to person. The first successful organ transplant was performed in the US in 1954. Doctor Joseph Murray received the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1990 for successfully performing a kidney transplant between twin brothers Ronald and Richard Herrick.

2. Organ donation of the deceased: The second form of organ donation is called corpse donation. In this process, after the death of the donor, his healthy organs are transplanted into a living person.
