World No. 1 Badminton Star Kento Momota Injured in Pre-dawn Car Crash in Malaysia

On Monday, Badminton world number one Kento Momota was injured in a pre-dawn vehicle collision in Malaysia, just hours after he secured his first victory of the season at the Malaysia Masters.  Kento Momota's van collided with a heavy truck. In fact, this incident happened to him shortly after winning his first match in the Malaysia Masters Badminton Tournament. Japan's shuttler Kento Momota and three others hired a van on their way to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which hit a truck weighing 30 tons. This has been confirmed by the police and the local fire department in their statement. All the injured have been admitted to Putrajaya Hospital.

The driver of the van has died in this accident. Police and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have said about Momota that three other people besides him were his physiotherapist, assistant coach and an officer of the World Badminton Federation. The association said in its statement that Kento Momota suffered injuries on several parts of the body, while fracturing his nose.

Malaysia's Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad has said that the condition of four people is normal. Kento Momota and the other three people will be discharged after the hospital authorities are satisfied. The minister has said, "According to investigations and CT scans, all four have not suffered any major injuries. They are all stable and are undergoing treatment."
