January 30 is an important day in Indian history. On this day in 1948, Nathuram Godse shot and killed the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. His death anniversary is also celebrated every year as Martyr's Day. By the way, Martyr's Day is also celebrated on 23 March because Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged on the same day. Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi in the evening of 30 January 1948, shot at Birla House. He was 78 years old at the time. Godse did not agree with Gandhiji's view of the partition of India.

At the tomb of Mahatma Gandhi, every year the President of India, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister, arrives at Rajghat. All the dignitaries pay tribute to Gandhiji and his contributions in the freedom struggle are remembered.

Know about Mahatma Gandhi-

– Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He received his early education from Gujarat and studied at Bombay University.

– Gandhiji went to London on 4 September 1888 to study law.

– In 1893, Gandhiji went to South Africa on a one-year agreement. There he observed that in South Africa Indians were treated very abusively. He too became a victim of discrimination.

– Gandhiji returned to India in 1916 and devoted his entire life to the freedom struggle of India.

– Champaran movement was his first achievement in the freedom struggle which was started in 1918.

– He also started the non-cooperation movement in 1920. But after some incidents of violence came to light during the movement, it was considered unsuccessful.

– Then in 1930 Gandhiji started the Civil Disobedience Movement, known as Dandi Yatra.

– In 1942, he launched Quit India Movement and called it the most successful and biggest movement of his life.
