While dengue, malaria as well as cases of leptospirosis have also started increasing. Leptospirosis is also a type of fever that is spread by bacteria called Leptospira. In view of the increasing seasonal diseases. The Medical and Health Department has directed all the Chief Medical and Health Officers to run public awareness campaigns for their prevention.
In Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Hospital (SMS), these days, patients suffering from most seasonal diseases are coming to the OPD. Due to this, the number of OPDs here has increased almost one and a half times as compared to normal days. The number of patients in OPD in SMS is 4 to 5 thousand. Which has increased to 8 thousand these days. Cases of leptospirosis have raised some concerns these days.
According to Dr. Puneet Saxena, Professor and Unit Head, Department of Medicine, SMS Hospital, 90 percent of patients with leptospirosis have symptoms of muscle pain along with fever. Apart from this, symptoms like headache, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, red eyes, red rash on the body are seen in 5-10 percent of the patients. Symptoms of a person exposed to this bacteria appear after 5-10 days.
Dr. Saxena told that if a patient is negligent in this disease and does not get the treatment done on time, then the cases also get worse. After which he has to give high-dose anti-biotics injections. At the same time, the chances of the patient getting kidney and liver failure and suffering from meningitis increase more. He said that this disease is mainly spread through animals. The disease spreads on the mutilated part of a person's hands and feet when it comes in contact with the excreta of an infected animal or the soil where this excreta has fallen.
Apart from this, if your hands are dirty and you clean your eyes, nose, mouth with the same hands. Then there is a risk of spreading this disease. Animal husbandry, people living in canal area and working in the fields should be more careful. Also, hands and feet should be washed thoroughly with soap from time to time.
