The country's stock markets rose on Monday. The Sensex gained 163.68 points to 37,145.45 and the Nifty gained 56.85 points to close at 11,003.05. The 30-share sensitive index Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened 1236 points down at 36,969.48 in the morning and closed at 37,145.45, up 163.68 points or 0.44 percent.

On Monday, the Sensex touched an upper level of 37,244.08 and a low of 36,784.47 in day trading. The midcap and smallcap indices of BSE also gained momentum. The BSE midcap index gained 129.99 points to close at 13,494.62 and the Smallcap index gained 115.37 points to end at 12,709.96.

Nifty closed above 11 thousand

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) 50-share sensitive index Nifty lost 9.5 points to open at 10,936.70 and closed at 11,003.05, up 56.85 points or 0.52 per cent. The Nifty touched a high of 11,028.85 and a low of 10,889.80 in day trading.

17 out of 19 sectors of the BSE were up. Telecom (1.75 per cent), capital goods (1.74 per cent), industrial (1.37 per cent), consumer durables (1.05 per cent) and basic materials (0.94 per cent). The declining sectors of BSE included Information Technology (0.81 per cent) and Technology (0.53 per cent).

Banking share boom

Yes Bank saw 4.47 percent in BSE, 2.39 per cent in Maruti, 2.18 per cent in L&T, 2.05 per cent in Kotak Bank and 1.99 per cent in Bharti Airtel. On the NSE too, Yes Bank shares rose 4.30 per cent, UPL 3.85 per cent, Maruti 2.72 per cent, L&T 2.40 per cent and Bharti Airtel 2.29 per cent.
