Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who is going to be a part of India's first historic day-night test match, has said that wicket-keeping with pink ball in day-night test match will be very challenging. Indian cricket team will play their first day-night Test match against Bangladesh in Kolkata from Friday. Pink ball made by SG will be used in this match.
Wriddhiman Saha said that it is not easy to catch the pink ball. If it is challenging for the fielder standing in the slip, then I also stand behind the wicket next to the slip. Not only this, when the fast bowlers throw it, it waves. It may be a factor in catching it but I'm ready for it. We are professional players and we have to face such challenges.
Among Indian players, Wriddhiman Saha and Mohd Shami has experience of playing day and night matches in domestic cricket. Both these players have played day-night cricket with pink ball in the CAB Super League Final at Eden Gardens in 2016. Saha said that holding the pink ball is more of a challenge. We have to adjust it. The ball is new and it can prove to be helpful for fast bowlers. Batting in front of this ball will be a big challenge for the batsmen.
Saha was asked how much help the Indian fast bowlers Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami would get from this ball, but he said that whether the ball is pink or red will be the same for them. Shami has done well in the previous matches and he can bowl well under any conditions. They also have speed as well as reverse swing. Indian fast bowlers are doing very well these days and it is expected that they will continue to do the same with the pink ball.
