The Biden Administration is going to help those countries in the world where conditions worsen due to coronavirus, and where governments have not been able to buy vaccines. President Joe Biden said on Monday night that the United States will donate 20 million vaccine doses in June. Even before this, the US has promised to donate 60 million vaccine doses.

The day before Biden's announcement, WHO Chief Tedros Edenholm Ghebreyesus criticized the rich countries saying that they are vaccinating children and young people here when they do not need it. The WHO Chief had said – It would be better for the rich countries to understand their responsibility and give vaccines to the countries where the frontline workers have not been vaccinated yet. After this, the New York Times also gave the same advice to Biden Administration in its editorial.

2 crore doses will be Donated apart from 60 million doses

According to the New York Times report released on Monday night – the US government has already announced to donate 60 million vaccines. Now the President has decided that 2 crore vaccine doses will be donated. These vaccines will be given to those countries, which are either poor and cannot buy the vaccine. Or the countries where infections and deaths are happening the most. However, no country has been named in the report. It also includes the Astrazeneca vaccine. It is not currently approved by the FDA.

What did Biden say?

During a press conference at the White House, Joe Biden said – We know that America cannot be safe from the effects of the epidemic unless it is controlled by the world. No sea and no wall can protect us.

What did the NYT say?

On Sunday, America's most influential and big newspaper, the New York Times (NYT), in its editorial, advised the Biden Administration to openly help India and other developing countries during this difficult time. The newspaper said the same thing to the Western world, which is financially strong or rich.

The Editorial Board had said – This is the time when the Biden Administration should take strong and tough decisions. He should worry about this, take steps as to how the vaccine will be delivered to the rest of the world. If a concrete strategy is not made about the vaccine, it will have serious economic effects on the world and it will prove to be more expensive than the cost of making the vaccine.

WHO Worries about Poor Countries

WHO director-general Tedros Edenholm Ghebreyesus discussed the current state of Covid-19 in a press conference on Sunday itself. During this time, the WHO Chief had said – Rich countries are also vaccinating children. I appeal to stop it. The doses used in the vaccination of children should be donated to poor countries so that the epidemic can be dealt with faster and better.

He had said- We are seeing that some rich countries are also vaccinating children and youth. On the other hand, there are those poor countries in the world, where till now even the health workers could not get the vaccine. We want to give vaccines to all countries. It was only in January that I made it clear that there would be a moral collapse after the commencement of vaccination.

Unfortunately, we are now able to see this clearly. There are some countries that have a heap of vaccines and are also vaccinating those who are much less at risk from Kovid-19. I again appeal to them to help poor countries now. Health workers have also not been able to get vaccinated there.
