When I Saw Virat’s Batting at Emerging Tour, Knew He was Ready for Big Responsibility: Dilip Vengsarkar

Former Indian team selector Dilip Vengsarkar has experience of playing cricket for a long time and when he became the selector of Team India, he started looking for talent for the team. In this case, Dilip Vengsarkar is considered to be one of the best selectors in India, who recognized not only one but many young players who are world-class players today.

Let us tell you that Dilip Vengsarkar was the only person who had recognized the talent of Virat Kohli, the current captain of the national team in the age group cricket, as a selector. The 2006–2008 tenure of this former captain as chairman of the selection committee became a yardstick for the selectors as Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the captain.

Vengsarkar said, "It was my job to test talent. You can be good at testing talent, but if someone is talented, he should get a chance." Vengsarkar believes that he was successful in judging the post of chairman of the selection committee. He was also associated with the TCCI's Talent Research Development Department (TRDW) which explored the talent of cricketers like Dhoni. "TRDW however no longer exists.

Dilip Vengsarkar continued, "As the president of TRDW, I had seen Kohli many times in junior cricket. So when I became the chairman of the selection committee, we selected him for the emerging tour in Australia. I was there and when I saw him batting, I knew that he was ready for a big responsibility in cricket. "
