WhatsApp New Update: No one will be Able to Add you to a Group without your Consent

New Delhi: WhatsApp has introduced a new 'update' for the privacy of its users. Under this, WhatsApp users will be able to select such contacts that will not be able to connect them to any group.

The Facebook-owned company said on Wednesday that this update is being released to users worldwide on the new version of WhatsApp. WhatsApp is currently facing criticism due to Pegasus spyware.

A case of spying on journalists and human rights activists in other countries, including India, has come to light through Pegasus spyware.

WhatsApp has written in a blogpost that after the initial feedback from users regarding this update, we are providing the option of 'My contacts except' instead of 'Nobody' option.

Through this, users can select the contacts whose group you do not want to join. The number of WhatsApp users worldwide is 1.5 billion. The number of people using WhatsApp in India alone is 40 crore.

WhatsApp introduced such controls in April through which users can decide who can connect them to a group. Earlier, WhatsApp users could be linked to any group without their consent.

Under this new feature, on WhatsApp, there will be the option of 'My contacts except' instead of 'Nobody'. In this, users will be able to select the contacts who will not be able to connect them to any group without their consent. The other two options will be 'My contacts' and 'Everyone'.
