Even after the death of the infamous criminal Vikas Dubey in Kanpur’s village Bikaru, his terror continues. Now there is a terror of its ghost, as the evening sets in, there is a silence in the village, people hesitate to get out of their homes. Meanwhile, some people have claimed that they used to haunt the ghost of Vikas Dubey. Two and a half months ago, 8 policemen were killed in the encounter at the same place, later Vikas Dubey also died in the encounter.
Villagers Still Heard the Gunshots
The people of Bikaru say that they still hear gunshots at night. One villager did not mention his name but said, ‘Even today the sound of gunfire can be heard. Everyone knows but no one speaks. Some people have even seen the ghost of Vikas Bhaiya. The villagers say that they often see Vikas Dubey sitting on the ruins of his house. After the massacre here on the night of 2 and 3 July, the government demolished his house with a bulldozer.
‘Vikas was Smiling sitting in Ruins’
An elder told that a few days ago when he woke up for a short night, he saw that Vikas Dubey was sitting there smiling. The elder said, ‘It seemed as if he was trying to tell us something. He will definitely avenge his death. ‘ Similarly, a family living near the ruined house of Vikas Dubey claims that they too have heard many voices. One woman said, ‘Sometimes we hear like some people are talking among themselves, but that conversation is not heard clearly. The sounds of laughter are also heard from time to time, just like laughter used to be heard here when Vikas was alive.
Ghosts did not show to the Policemen on Duty
However, four policemen – two men and two women – are engaged in the development house. But none of the records said that they heard gunshots or ‘saw’ the ghost of Vikas. One of them says, “We have no problem in doing our duty here.” More than this, he refuses to say anything. A priest living in the village says that these things cannot be called false. He explains, ‘If someone’s unnatural death happens then such things happen. In the case of Vikas Dubey, neither his last rites were performed properly nor the subsequent actions. The same happened to his teammates killed in the encounter.
Worship for his Soul Peace
The villagers had asked a local priest to worship these troubled souls for peace during the Pitru Paksha. But the priest backed away, saying that by doing so, he would unnecessarily come into the eyes of the police. One villager says, “We will try to worship here in Navratri so that the souls of those killed here, including policemen, can be given peace.”
