When Will the Bullet Train Start?

The government claims that by the year 2022, the bullet train service will start.

Decision: It is difficult to start the bullet train service by 2022 or 2023.

In 2015, the announcement of the launch of the bullet train service between Ahmedabad and Mumbai was announced.

India also signed an agreement with Japan on this issue. Japan is investing in this project. In September 2017, the project started officially on the project.

The project started in a function in which the Prime Ministers of India and Japan participated.

In the same year, Indian Railways said, "All efforts will be made to complete the work of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Route till 15th August 2022."

According to officials, their goal is to complete a portion of the road till 2022 so that the remaining work is completed by next year.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi called it a "magical train" whose work will never be completed.

Why need a train?

There is a cheap and convenient way for many Indians to travel by train.

Every day, more than 200 million people travel around 9,000 trains in India.

But for years rail travellers have been demanding better facilities and passenger experience.

Vande Bhain Express is currently India's fastest train, which reached 180 kilometres per hour during the speed trial.

The speed of Japan's bullet train reaches 320 km per hour.

After completion, the $ 15 billion projects will connect Mumbai to Surat and Ahmedabad.

According to experts, it will take eight hours to complete 500 kilometres of the train, which will complete the distance within three hours.

And when this train runs on full speed then this distance will be completed within two to two hours.

The year 2022 deadlines have been extended for one year.

People connected to the project are now talking about its launch in 2023 instead of 2022.

But according to some experts, if the train starts in 2023.

Deobilina Kundu of the National Institute of Urban Affairs told, "I am not convinced about the slow progress of the project, besides the bureaucratic hurdles in the project."

Achal Khare, chief of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC), responsible for the implementation of this project, termed the deadline as "difficult" in talks, but he is hopeful.

According to the NHSRC, a path of 48 km can be prepared till between August and 2022 between Surat and Bilimora.

The NHSRC told the deadline of the entire project in December 2023.

Challenges

The biggest challenge to complete the project is to achieve the land.

1,400 acres is needed for the train project. Most of this is in the private hands.

NHSRC's goal was to complete the land acquisition by the end of 2018 but now it is being talked about ending by mid-2019.

All the land has to be purchased from around 6,000 landowners, but so far the land has been signed with 1,000 landowners.
According to reports, some landowners are not satisfied with the amount of compensation and they are opposing land acquisition.

On the other hand, Achal Khare says that according to the law, the amount of compensation the landowners should get, the amount given is 25 per cent more than that.

Despite this, some areas have exhibited over land acquisition and many petitions have been filed in the courts.

Petitions in the courts mean that the case can pull years.

According to the experts, this train will also pass through the wild and coastal areas, so it may take time to get various government clearances.
