West Bengal: BJP MLA Tanmoy Ghosh Joins Trinamool Congress

After the assembly elections in West Bengal, the BJP has suffered another setback as Tanmay Ghosh, MLA from Bishnupur in Bankura, quit the party and joined the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday.

After the assembly elections in West Bengal, the BJP has suffered another setback as Tanmoy Ghosh, MLA from Bishnupur in Bankura, quit the party and joined the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday. Earlier, senior leader and MLA Mukul Roy along with his son Shubhranshu had left the BJP and rejoined the Trinamool in June.

Two BJP MLAs have so far joined Trinamool after the assembly elections. Ghosh joined TMC in the presence of State Education Minister Bratya Basu at Trinamool Bhavan in Kolkata. Basu welcomed the BJP MLA to the party by giving him the party flag.

Ghosh hits out at BJP:

Soon after joining the Trinamool, Ghosh hit out at the BJP, saying it was doing politics of retaliation and wanted to exercise authority over the people of Bengal by misusing the central agencies. He said that the people of Bengal did not like this and that is why the Trinamool Congress won a landslide victory in the elections. Ghosh praised Mamata Banerjee saying that she is the most popular leader of the country and popular Chief Minister of Bengal.

He said that he left the BJP and joined Trinamool only after being inspired by the schemes being run by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her government. Ghosh also said that many people in the BJP are feeling suffocated. In the coming days, many more people will leave the party and join TMC. He said, "BJP is into vindictive politics. They're attempting to snatch rights of WB people by using central agencies. I urge all politicians to support CM Mamata Banerjee for public welfare."
