The Supreme Court has refused to entertain the petition of the Chhattisgarh government. In the alleged fake toolkit case challenging the High Court's order to stay the investigation against the two leaders.
While hearing the matter, a bench headed by Justice NV Ramanna said that let the Chhattisgarh High Court decide the matter. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli observed that the existing cases cannot be treated separately as several cases relating to the toolkit issue are pending in different High Courts. The bench said don't waste your energy here. We are not inclined to entertain the special leave petitions. We reject SLP.
The apex court urged the Chhattisgarh High Court to expeditiously decide the petitions related to the fake toolkit case, saying that the matters be decided without being influenced by the earlier observations. Significantly, the Chhattisgarh High Court on June 11 passed two separate orders. And granted interim relief in the same FIR registered against Singh and Patra. During this, the High Court had said that there was no breach of peace among the common people due to this matter but it was a purely political matter between two parties.
In fact, on May 19, an FIR was registered based on a complaint by Akash Sharma. President of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) Chhattisgarh unit, alleging that Singh, Patra, and others circulated fabricated content on social media platforms. An attempt was made to damage the image of Congress by projecting it as a toolkit developed by the party.
