Tokyo Olympics: Boxer Pooja Rani Advances to Quarters, Archer Deepika Kumari in 3rd Round

Indian women performed brilliantly in Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday. In boxing event, Pooja Rani has reached the quarterfinals of the women's 75 kg weight category. By winning one more match, she will secure at least bronze medal. At the same time, PV Sindhu in badminton and Deepika Kumari in archery have reached the pre-quarterfinals of women's singles. However, the women's hockey team has suffered a third consecutive defeat.

Pooja defeated Ichrak Chaib of Algeria 5-0 in the round of 16 match. In all three rounds, she got full marks from all the five judges. Before her, Lovlina Borgohain has also reached the quarterfinals in the 69 kg weight category. In archery women's singles, Deepika Kumari is playing the second round match. She is currently tied at 4-4 against the American archers.

Indian women's hockey team lost:

On the other hand, Indian archer Tarundeep Rai crashed out of a medal race in men's singles. He was defeated in a shoot-off by Itay Shanny of Israel in a round of 16 elimination match. After three sets, both the archers were tied at 5-5 points. In the shoot off, Rai scored 9 and Shanny scored 10 points. Roy had earlier defeated Ukraine's Oleksii Hunbin 6-4 in a round of 32 elimination.

India's women's hockey has lost the third match in a row. In the match played on Wednesday, Britain defeated the Indian team 4-1. For Britain, Hannah Martin scored two goals and Lillee Oslie and Grace Balsdon scored 1-1. Sharmila Devi scored the only goal for India. Earlier, the Indian women's team had lost 1-5 to the Netherlands and 0-2 to Germany. There is still hope for the Indian team to reach the quarter-finals. India is yet to play against Ireland and South Africa.
