Randeep Surjewala Gets Bail in ADC Bank Defamation Case

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has been granted bail on Wednesday by the Metropolitan Court in the ADC Bank defamation case. In court, Surjewala declared himself innocent, Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi granted his bail. The court granted bail to Surjewala on a bond of Rs 15,000. The next hearing in this case will be on February 15, 2020.

A bail warrant was issued against Surjewala in October 2019 for non-attendance even after issuing summons twice. Section 499 of Indian Penal Code against Gandhi and Surjewala on behalf of ADC Bank for the rhetoric of the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi and the party's national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala after the demonetisation of a thousand and five hundred rupee note from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A defamation suit was filed under 500. BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is the director of ADC Bank.

Rahul Gandhi has appeared in this case, but due to the Haryana assembly election, Surjewala could not appear before the court. His lawyer petitioned the court to grant amnesty, but Metropolitan Magistrate NB Munshi had issued a bail warrant against Surjewala on 11 October, rejecting the plea. Surjewala arrived in Munshi's Court on Wednesday morning 13 and applied for bail, which was accepted by the court.

The court has directed him to go to the police station concerned to get the warrant revoked. Surjewala alleged after demonetisation that hundreds of crores of rupees were deposited in ADC Bank of Ahmedabad in a single day, after which a defamation suit was filed against him by the bank for defaming the bank.
