Election strategist Prashant Kishor met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi about two months ago. Only after this, it was almost decided that Prashant would join Congress and he would also get special status in the party. Rahul and Priyanka agree to this, but some seniors object to it. Now Sonia Gandhi will take the final decision.

According to sources, the G-23 group, which has raised questions about the leadership in the Congress, does not want Prashant Kishor to enter the party and be given special status. These leaders also held a meeting at Kapil Sibal's house on this matter.

4 reasons for the dispute over Prashant Kishor

  1. In the upcoming elections, a separate committee will be formed under the leadership of Prashant Kishor or he will work under the existing system of Congress.
  2. Some leaders say that PK's wild card entry will not benefit the party.
  3. Those who objected say that Sonia-Rahul and Priyanka should listen to the leaders and workers and work with them, which is closed in the party.
  4. A leader said that Prashant Kishor does not have a magic wand. Apart from this, he will also find it difficult to adopt the culture and thinking of the party.

Things going in PK's favour

  1. Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi have no objection to PK because both of them worked together in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Though Congress and Samajwadi Party were together then, the results did not go in favour of this alliance.
  2. In Bengal and Tamil Nadu, the PK devised a strategy for the Trinamool and the DMK, and some Congress leaders impressed by this success believe that the inclusion of the PK could be beneficial.

Why does Congress need PK?

Sources say that the series of electoral defeats have troubled the Congress high command. Now the party needs a new face and thinking. Apart from this, after the death of Ahmed Patel, Sonia Gandhi needs an advisor and this search has brought her to PK. In July, when Prashant Kishor met Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka, there was a long discussion about his role. PK shared many such plans which need to be adopted in the party.
