On Monday, a long telephonic conversation between PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump took place amidst efforts by Pakistan to increase tension on the Kashmir issue. All the issues like bilateral trade, Afghanistan and other bilateral relations were discussed in the talks, but the issue of Jammu and Kashmir also took serious concern between the two leaders.

It has been made clear by PM Modi that unnecessarily inflammatory statements are being made by Pakistan PM Imran Khan which is not right for regional peace. PM Modi said that the need to eradicate violence and terror was the most important to eliminate terror across the border.

According to the information released by the Ministry of External Affairs, for half an hour, the two leaders spoke in a very cordial atmosphere. In the context of the talks held in Osaka in late June 2019, the Prime Minister expressed the wish that the Indian Commerce Minister would soon meet his US counterpart (Trade Representative) to agree on bilateral trade issues.After this, the regional situation was discussed. The Prime Minister emphasized how important it is to end the cross-border terror in South Asia, creating an atmosphere free from violence and terror. PM Modi also said that India is ready to cooperate with whatever goes on the said path and will go together to prevent against poverty, illiteracy and epidemics.

Afghanistan was also discussed between Modi and Trump. Afghanistan is celebrating the hundredth anniversary of its independence. Modi made clear India's intention that he was always in favor of a united, secure, democratic and independent Afghanistan.

Talks between the US and the Taliban are in the final stages to establish peace in Afghanistan. The situation in Afghanistan is very important from India's strategic point of view, so it is monitoring every situation.
