Following the violent protests on December 19 and 20 in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), strict instructions have been given to take extra vigil in the state on the possibility of a stir again today. After Friday prayers in the state, there will be a tight security cordon at all sensitive places. According to the rule, the situation is normal at the moment. Section 144 is engaged, but precautions are being taken so that violent demonstrations do not occur again.

Today, the administration has already announced a precautionary shutdown in sensitive districts in view of the possibility of a stir once again after the prayers. Internet is off in some districts, including Saharanpur, Meerut, Agra, Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad and Bijnor. The state administration has given this exemption to the DMs of all the districts, if the case is sensitive and there is a possibility of communal tension, as a precaution, they can shut down the internet in their area. Internet in Shamli, Bulandshahar, Agra, Sambhal, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Firozabad, Mathura, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Aligarh, Sitapur, has been closed till further orders.
State DGP OP Singh has given strict instructions to keep a close watch on the meeting with senior officials. Peace committee meetings have been asked to maintain peace and order by mutual coordination. On Thursday, information about the CAA was also given in Peace Committee meetings under the Out Reach Program. Security has been enhanced in the most sensitive areas. Flagmarking is being done at various places. Senior district officials are appealing to the Maulanas and leaders of Muslim organizations to keep calm.
