MARY COM DOES IT AGAIN, REACHES TO FINAL OF WOMEN’S BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

India's ace boxer MC Mary Kom defeated North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi by a unanimous decision to book a place in the final of the 480kg event in the ongoing women's world boxing championships.

With this victory, the five times champion Mary Kom assured of that at least silver in the converted world's event.  This will be Mary Kom's record seventh medal at the women's world boxing championship.

Mary Kom is undoubtedly one of the most successful women pugilists in the event's history.

She entered the event with a remarkable tally of five gold medals and silver to her credit. She last won a world championship medal in 2010-48kg category gold.

Before this world championship, the Manipuri was tied with Irish Legend Katie Taylor on the number of medals won. Taylor now plies her trade in the professional circuit. Apart from Mary Kom, the other three Indian semi-finalists are- Lovlina Borgohain (69) kg who will take the ring on Thursday while Sonia Chahal (57)kg and Simranjit Kaur (64) kg will have their semifinal bouts.

Earlier, Mary Kom had already become the most successful woman boxer in the history of the championships by assuring herself of a seventh medal.

Mary Kom has beaten Kim in their last meeting at the summit clash of the Asian championships last year and the Manipuri veteran sounded confident of a win again.

"I am confident. I also know when to drop guard and when to attack. I have worked with the coaches and have a plan in place to counter her"
