Jignesh Mevani, former president of JNU Students' Union and Dalit leader of Gujarat may join Congress today. The preparations for this are also seen in full swing. Posters have also been put up outside the Congress office in Delhi to welcome Kanhaiya Kumar. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi will also be present at the time of joining Kanhaiya and Jignesh Mevani.
Not only this, but Gujarat Congress youth leader Hardik Patel will also be present on the occasion. Kanhaiya Kumar had met Rahul Gandhi in the same month, after which there was speculation about his joining the Congress.
It is believed that earlier both the youth leaders were going to join the Congress on 27 September i.e. the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, but it was postponed due to the farmers' call for Bharat Bandh. At the same time, Jignesh Mevani, an independent MLA from Gujarat, had told last week that he is going to join the Congress along with Kanhaiya, the former president of JNU Students' Union, on September 28.
Kanhaiya Kumar had joined the Communist Party of India (CPI) just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Kanhaiya had also contested the Lok Sabha elections from his home constituency Begusarai but here he was defeated by BJP's Giriraj Singh. Let us tell you that he was jailed inside the JNU campus in 2016 for raising anti-India slogans on the occasion of the death anniversary of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru.
