Justice B.V. Nagarathna may become the first woman Chief Justice of the country in 2027. The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by the current Chief Justice NV Ramana, has recommended the names of nine judges, including Justice Nagarathna, for promotion. Justice Nagarathna is currently a judge of the Karnataka High Court.

If the name of Justice Nagarathna gets the approval of the central government, then she can become the Chief Justice of India in 2027. However, his tenure will be only for a little more than a month. Justice Nagarathna's father, Justice E.S. Venkataramaiah has also been the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He held this post from 19 June 1989 to 17 December 1989.

Justice Nagarathna spoke of the media regulation system

Justice Nagarathna was appointed as an additional judge in the Karnataka High Court in 2008, and was appointed a permanent judge in 2010. He has given many important decisions on the basis of commercial and constitutional laws. In addition, in 2012, in view of the increasing cases of fake news, Justice Nagarathna and other judges had directed the central government to examine the possibility of regulating media broadcasting. However, he also warned of the dangers of government control over the media.
