Indian champion Neeraj Chopra won the GOLD Medal with mamoth 87.58 meter throw in his second attempt. This is India's first medal in ATHLETICS after a gap of 121 years. Neeraj threw 87.03 meters in the first attempt and 87.58 meters in the second attempt. He threw 76.79 meters in the third attempt, and fouls in the fourth, fifth attempt.
After 13 years in the Olympic Games, India has won a gold medal in an event. Earlier in 2008, Beijing Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra won gold medal in the 10m air rifle event.
