Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh will Become Union Territories

Taking a Historic decision, the Central Government has decided to remove clause (1) of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. After this decision, special status will be lost to Jammu and Kashmir. With this, Ladakh will be separated from Jammu and Kashmir and these two will be made separate Union Territories. There are currently 7 Union Territories in the country. This includes New Delhi, Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. After the joining of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, there will be 9 Union Territories in the country.

According to the draft in the Indian Constitution, India is called the Union of States. Currently, there are 29 states and 7 union territories in India. The state's rule is done by the elected Chief Minister of that state while the governance of the Union Territory is done by the Administrator / Lt. Governor appointed by the center in that state. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi and Puducherry are ruled by the Lieutenant Governor (Deputy Governor) while the other four Union Territories (Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Chandigarh) are governed by administrators.

Union Territory in India means those territories which, due to certain special circumstances, are not directly run by the Central Government, except in other states. At present there are 7 union territories within the country. They have been given this status for different reasons.

There is no clear reason why there is a Union Territory in India, but there are many reasons responsible for it, such as small size and low population, different culture, distance from other states, administrative importance, protection of local cultures, governance matters To overcome political turmoil and important security situation etc. Let us now discuss all these reasons in detail.

Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram were also given the status of Union Territory, separated from the state of Assam in 1972, but in 1986 they were granted statehood.
