IT Ministry Sent Notice to all Social Media Platforms and asked – Why Rules are Not Followed

On behalf of the ministry, it was said that if they do not consider themselves as social media, then give the reason for this.

The Ministry of IT has sent a notice to all social media platforms on Wednesday asking why they have not followed the new rules of the Ministry of Electronics and Technology issued on February 25. The Ministry has asked why they have not appointed competent officers, if they have been appointed, then provide details of them till this evening.

On behalf of the ministry, it was said that if they do not consider themselves as social media, then give the reason for this. In addition, the Ministry can ask for more information and is free to take action. The IT ministry has sought details about the complaint officer based in India, the Chief Compliance Officer appointed by the companies under the new social media rules. The IT Ministry said that other rules, including the need for additional investigation for big social media companies, have come into effect from Wednesday.

Govt wants Compiled details from social media firm

The government has asked the social media firm to provide compiled details under the new IT rules at the earliest. In a letter written by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to Social Media Intermediaries on Wednesday, more than 50 lakh registered users in India have been considered as social media firms. In addition, those firms have been asked to provide the compliance status of their apps' names, websites, or services whose scope falls under the new IT rules.

In this letter, the firm has further been asked to provide the name and details of the Chief Compliance Officer, Resident Grievance Officer, whom he has appointed in India, as well as the address of the local office. The letter said that the government is not going to extend further to the social media firms on the due date for the acceptance of the new Regulations, which is going to end on Wednesday.
