As the fight between Israel and Hamas entered the second week, Israeli fighter jets carried out fierce bombings at several places in Gaza city on Monday. On the other hand, the Hamas militant group kept up its rocket attacks on Israeli cities. According to Gaza Health Ministry, the death toll mounted to 200. These include 60 children and 37 women. Meanwhile, 10 people have been killed in Israel, including two children.

Let us tell you that Hamas began its rocket strikes on May 10 after weeks of tensions over a court case to evict several Palestinian families in East Jerusalem.  The war began in retaliation for Israel police clashes with Palestinians at al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest site, during the holy month of Ramazan.

Meanwhile, India requested both sides to refrain from unilaterally changing the status quo, including in East Jerusalem and neighbouring areas. India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti said, "Immediate de-escalation is the need of the hour, so as to arrest any further slide towards the brink. We urge both sides to show extreme restraint, desist from actions that exacerbate tensions, and refrain from attempts to unilaterally change the existing status quo, including in East Jerusalem and its neighbourhood."
