Idols Were Found at Disputed Site: Ramlala’s Lawyer

A five-member constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi in the Supreme Court is hearing the Ayodhya land dispute for the seventh day today. On behalf of 'Ram Lala Virajaman', lawyer CS Vaidyanathan, in his arguments, showed a report based on the remains found during the excavation and claimed that the idol of Lord Rama in the form of a child was there.

Vaidyanathan said that many figures of deities have been found at the disputed site. Along with this, he read excerpts from the court appointed commissioner's report to inspect the disputed site in support of his arguments. Vaidyanathan said that the commissioner of the court inspected the disputed site on 16 April 1950. He mentioned in his report the presence of pillars bearing the figure of Lord Shiva there.

Vaidyanathan said that the figures of the gods and goddesses are found only on the pillars of the temples and not on the pillars of the mosque … Also, he got the court inspection report of 1950 with a description of the figures found on the pillars in Ayodhya. Also assigned a map. He said that all these evidences show that it was a religiously sacred place for Hindus.

On the previous hearing, Vaidyanathan presented his arguments citing historical books, travelogues of foreign travelers, Veda and Skanda Purana. Vaidyanathan referred to the travelogue of William Finch, a British merchant who came to India during 1608–1611, which records that there was a fort or palace in Ayodhya where Hindus believe that Lord Rama was born here.
