On Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a grant of one thousand crore rupees as interim relief to deal with the devastation caused by the cyclone Amphan in Bengal.  On the very next day, within 24 hours, on Saturday, the Modi government of the Center released an amount of one thousand crores for Bengal.

The Center on Saturday gave Rs 1,000 crore to Bengal from the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF).  Meanwhile, the order issued by the Finance Ministry urges the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to "immediately deposit funds in the state government account".  It states that this amount is being released to the Government of Bengal 'on account basis' on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Regarding the release of one thousand crore rupees, the Prime Minister said that through this amount, the work of rehabilitation, reconstruction will be started immediately.  The Center stands with Bengal in this difficult time.  He also praised the efforts of the Bengal government under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to deal with the situation arising due to the cyclone and covid-19.  However, after the PM's departure, Mamta had said that when the announcement of giving one thousand crore has been announced, it will be found.

Earlier on Friday, after an aerial survey of some of the cyclone-affected districts of the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for West Bengal and Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
