Former India cricketer Yashpal Sharma has passed away. He died due to a heart attack. He was 66 years old. He is survived by wife, two daughters and one son. After his death, there was a wave of mourning in the cricket world. Even former captain Kapil Dev could not stop tears after hearing the news of Yashpal's death.

When India won the World Cup for the first time in 1983 by defeating West Indies, Yashpal was part of that world winning team. Yashpal Sharma contributed a lot to Indian cricket. He was also the selector of Team India. Sunil Gavaskar once called him the Crisis Man of Team India because of his strong batting in the middle order.

Yashpal Sharma played 37 Test matches for India in which he scored 1606 runs. Yashpal's highest score in Test matches was 140 runs. He has 2 centuries and 9 half-centuries to his name in the biggest format of cricket. Apart from this, he played 42 ODIs for India in which his bat scored 883 runs including 4 half-centuries. Yashpal's highest score in ODI cricket was 89 runs.

Apart from this, Yashpal scored 8933 runs in 160 first-class matches. In which he scored 21 centuries and 46 half-centuries. At the same time, he has 1859 runs in 741 matches of List A, in which he was successful in scoring 12 centuries.

Yashpal Sharma's performance in the 1983 Cricket World Cup final

Yashpal Sharma came out to bat at number four in the World Cup final between India and West Indies at Lord's on 25 June 1983. During this, he played an innings of 11 runs while batting softly. India won the World Cup for the first time by defeating West Indies by 43 runs in this final match.

Earlier in the World Cup, India started with a win against West Indies during group matches. Yashpal Sharma's role was important in this match. When he came to the field to bat, India's score at that time was 76 for 3, after which India's five wickets fell for 141 runs.

In this match against West Indies, Yashpal scored 89 runs in 120 balls. Apart from this, he also played an innings of 40 runs against Australia. At the same time, Yashpal scored 61 runs against England in a delicate situation. Overall, in the 1983 World Cup, Yashpal Sharma managed to score 240 runs at an average of 34.28. Due to his performance, India was able to reach the finals and win the title.
